2024 Basic Crime Scene and Evidence Collection Course
This fundamental Basic Crime Scene and Evidence Collection course is an 8-hour in-person “hands-on”, intensive training course designed for forensic practitioners and students. This course emphasizes the basic requirements needed to process a crime scene from start to finish. Attendees will learn effective evidence-collection techniques and applications for fingerprint processing, DNA collection, and trace evidence collection under real-world environmental conditions encountered in the field (e.g., rain, wind, heat, and cold).
The course will be taught using several mock crime scenes so that students will gain “hands-on” experience from start to finish and learn- when, where, and how to apply evidence-collection techniques.
The course material covered includes fingerprint processing, DNA collection, proper safety protocols, evidence preservation and packaging, case documentation, and court preparation of the collected evidence.
Students will finish the training with confidence in the new forensic skills and knowledge gained.
A certificate of completion will be awarded upon completion of the course.
